This project aims to investigate the coast landscape of Mallorca in relation to the lighthouse buildings on the island. The lighthouses work as reference locations to carry out this project which focused on studying, exploring and reflecting upon this singular architecture situated on the edge between land and sea. This project approaches the concept of cultural landscape which is understood as the result from actions and activities made by a group of people or community in a certain place. The culture is the agent, nature is the medium and the cultural landscape is the result.
This work makes a journey through the lighthouse of Mallorca; there are 16 lighthouses in total. Nowadays, they work automatically; however some of them have a lighthouse keeper who takes care of its maintenance and operation. The project consists of a video installation with 3 video projectors and an artist book which includes documentation about the project and the lighthouses.
